Marilyn was a secretary for 12 years at the Turner-Vermost Agency in Moline, IL, retiring in 1984. She was later a librarian at the Woodhull Public Library. She attended the United Church of Woodhull. She enjoyed reading, collecting miniature shoes and was an avid Cubs fan. Survivors include one brother, Harry Richard (Mary) Fay of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; sister-in-law, Barbara Fay of Mt. Morris, Illinois; nieces and nephews, Diane Lovell, Judy Gustafson, Janice Nelson, Deb Wright, Melanie Garrett, Gracia McAllister, Beth Quoss, Mike, Terry, Larry and Mark Fay, Kay Teeter, Paula Blackburn and Becky Sweeney. Lennis E Hyett, 64, of Aledo, Illinois, died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Aspen Health and Rehab Center in Silvis. Cremation has been accorded. Lennis was born December 23, 1949 in Rock Island, Illinois to Claris and Frances Hudson Hyett. He attended the Aledo schools and graduated from Orion High School in 1968. He worked at the Ordinance Plant in Burlington, Iowa and later moved to Portland, Maine, Roscommon, Michigan and Savannah, Georgia where he remodeled homes, installed custom interiors in business jets and became a luthier in the slack periods. Returning to Aledo, he concentrated on his luthier work, selling mainly mandolins in the southern U.S. and in Europe. Lennis enjoyed Friday night cribbage with his friends, Bill and Laura Anderson, motorcycles (he had his 100,000 mile jacket patch for his BMW), playing stringed instruments and telling stories. He was a noted raconteur. Survivors include a son, Owen Garnett of New Jersey; his mother, Frances Banks of Aledo; brothers, Claris “Bud” Hyett of Granite Falls, WA and Larry Hyett of Aledo; one nephew, Jeff (Angela) Hyett of Dalton City, IL; great niece, Amanda Hyett of Nokomis, IL; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father.

Marilyn R. Shannon, age 74, of Aledo, Illinois formerly of New Windsor, IL. died Saturday October 18, 2014 at the Aledo Health and Rehab Center. She was employed as a schoolteacher in the Aledo School District for 29 years and one year teaching in Moline. Mary was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, traveling, spending winters in Arizona with siblings and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter, Toni (Gary) Church of San Diego, CA; three sons, Ric (Elizabeth) MacDonald of Aledo; Jay (Linda) MacDonald of Reynolds, IL; Robert MacDonald of Loveland, CO; 5 grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Ellen, Ian and Maggie; a sister, Kathleen Corrigan of Bettendorf, IA; three brothers, Thomas Conway of Reynolds, James Conway of Aledo, Charles Conway of Sun City, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews. Zola was a healthcare provider having worked at Knox County, Oak Glen and Americana Nursing Homes. She also did home healthcare for over 20 years. On November 10, 1956, she married Howard “Hap” McCleary at the Joy Methodist Church. Wanda was a homemaker and assisted in the operation of the family farm. She had a gift of hospitality and used it to bless the Village of Joy community. Wanda thoroughly enjoyed helping others and putting their needs and desires before her own. She had a very strong faith and love of God. She was a former 4H leader and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with her family and granddaughters. Survivors include her husband, Hap; one daughter, Sherie (Dan) Keller of Muscatine, IA; two sons, Dennis McCleary of Aledo, David McCleary of Iowa City, IA; two granddaughters, Erica (Sam) Hoopes; Maggie Johnston, all of Muscatine; two step granddaughters, Kearstyn Wacker and Kourtney Fox, both of Muscatine; step great grandchildren, Kody, Noah, Allyson and Alivia, all of Muscatine; four sisters, Ernestine King of Aledo; Berni (Darrel) Efnor of Bradford, IL; Martha (Aubrey) King of New Boston; Diana (Denny) Fullerton of Keithsburg; and several nieces and nephews. Nancy served as treasurer and member of the Board of Directors at Friends of Knox County Child Advocacy Center and she volunteered at Cottage Hospital. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends. She was born March 4, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from high school and attended University of Southern California. Dena married Fredrick Arrington on July 21, 1983 in Las Vegas. Dena was a homemaker and a professional seamstress. She was a member of the Boden Community Church and an avid animal lover. Dena enjoyed ceramics, having owned her own shop. Survivors include her husband, Fred; three daughters, Renee (Rick) Suierveld of California; Brandi (Darren) Gates of Matherville; Marie (Tom) Spence of Texas; one son, Kevin (Esther) Sanford of California; one stepdaughter, Vicki (Delmer) Dobrinski of Mineral, IL; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. On December 25, 1946 she married Arnold R. Bonnett in Cuba, IL. He died October 26, 2006. She and her husband owned and operated Bonnett’s Accounting in New Windsor, retiring in 2005. Freeda was a member of the Alpha United Methodist Church where she served in various capacities. She served on the Rivoli Township Library board and was a trustee for the Verl I. Brooks Scholarship Foundation. She was active in the arts and crafts venue in the New Windsor Fair and Rodeo. She was an exceptional seamstress and enjoyed arts and crafts and playing bridge. She is survived by one daughter, Judy (Larry) Diemer of Galesburg; one son, Dan (Susan Martin) Bonnett of Phoenix, AZ; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; two brothers, Edward (Margaret) Tomkins of Sun City, AZ; Gene (Carol) Tomkins of Meridian, MS; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

She was born November 24, 1916 in Keithsburg, IL a daughter of Harvey and Beatrice Knox Crow. She attended the New Boston schools. On September 30, 1933, she was united in marriage to Lester H. Berry in Keithsburg, IL. He died January 11, 1992. Dottie worked as a nurses aid at Mercer County Hospital for over 20 years in several departments including OB, inhalation, and the office. She was a member of the Aledo United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter Karon Anderson of Aledo, IL; a son Ronald (Toni) Berry of Chelan, WA; 4 grandchildren Jason (Kim) Anderson, Susan (Mark) Sewald, Tye Anderson, Lisa Sloan; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Kenneth L. Crutcher, 69, of Aledo, formerly of Joy, IL, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at home after a lengthy battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He married Janice Quinn in 1968 and later married Janet Johnson Reger April 4, 1981 in Moline, IL. Kenny was employed by John Deere Seeding Division in Moline as a tool and die maker until going to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corp. in 1965. After completing his tour of duty, he returned to John Deere, retiring after 30 years in 1995. Kenny was a member of the First Baptist Church in Aledo and the Eliza American Legion Post 1971. He enjoyed spending time with his family, going on mission trips, building homes, cabinets and other furniture, spending time at his cabin at Lake Odessa and raising fowl and small animals. He also hosted the annual fall weiner roast for many years at his homeplace in Joy which was attended by friends and family. He is survived by his wife: Janet; three daughters: Julie (Arthur) Metcalf of LaSalle, IL; Jill (Tom) Menke of Bettendorf, IA; Michelle (Darin) O’Brien of Aledo, IL; two sons: Jeff (Jennifer) Crutcher of Hardy, Iowa; Colin (Beth) Crutcher of Colona, IL; 14 grandchildren; 2 great grandsons; three sisters: Wilma Townley of Taylor Ridge, IL; Eva Bull of Illinois City, IL; Doris (Bill) Retherford of Joy, IL; several nieces and nephews. Duncan November 6, 1938 in Yorkville, IL. He died in 1996. Ida was a homemaker and was briefly employed as a Supervisor at the Commerce Building Cafeteria in Washington D.C. in 1938. She was an Elder of the Seaton Center Presbyterian Church, former President of the Mercer County Home Bureau, a member of the Mercer County Home Economist in Home Making and a lifetime member of the Mercer County Historical Society. She was involved in numerous local social groups. She is survived by 2 sons; David B. (Marcia) Duncan, Wayne E. (Polley) Duncan all of Alexis, 4 grandchildren; William (Amy) Duncan of Alexis, Denise (Ganesh) Ganpat of Ankeny, IA, Jeffrey Duncan of Aledo, Abigail (Matt) Todd of Ballwin, Missouri, 7 great grandchildren. He married Jane Roseboom and later married Joanne Jones Reed June 23, 1985 in Aledo. He briefly worked at the Rock Island Arsenal until becoming employed at the U. S. Postal Service where he worked for 38 years retiring in 1998. After retiring he briefly worked for Hahn in Muscatine and spent a great deal of time working on his farm. Fred was baptized at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Preemption, IL. and was a member of the Aledo Masonic Lodge # 252 AF & AM and the OES Chapter # 126 in Aledo where he served as past patron. He was an avid Cubs fan and he loved his farm and hard work. Survivors include his wife, Joanne, 2 daughters, Shari Gowdy of Orion, IL, Cindee (Frank) Huffer of Moline, IL, 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mildred Harmsen of DeWitt, IA, Betty Swanson of Milan, IL, Martha Wenzel of Monticello, IL and several nieces and nephews. Keith apprenticed for Anderson Motor Co. and Ranney’s Automotive in Aledo prior to owning and operating Beverlin’s Auto Body and Towing for 42 years in Aledo, He retired in 2007. He was a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau and was a dealer for several automotive clubs, including AAA and the Chicago Motor Club Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins including Jim and Sharon Bridgford of Aledo, IL, Bonnie Bridgford of Andalusia, IL. and Kent and Connie Gerber of Aledo, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters: Jessie Dodson, Mildred Davison, Freda Davison, Grace Bridgford and Elizabeth Beverlin and a special friend, Leila McNeal.

Arno J. Owens, age 94, of Woodhull, Illinois died Monday January 12, 2015 at Hillcrest Home in Geneseo. Services are 1:30 PM Friday January 16, 2015 at the Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull. Burial is in the Andover Cemetery, Andover, Illinois. Visitation is from 5-7 PM Thursday at the funeral home where memorials may be left to the Andover/Osco Fire Dept. or the Hillcrest Home. On March 26, 1947, he was united in marriage to Beatrice B. Terry in Rock Island, IL. Arno was a lifetime farmer and raising cattle was his passion. He sold seed corn for the Pride Seed Corn Company and after winning a trip to Hawaii he learned to travel and they enjoyed it immensely. He loved Harvest time, enjoyed dancing and especially loved being with his family. He was a member of the Henry County Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice, 1 daughter Linda (Marvin) Beard of Davenport, Ia, 2 sons, Tom (Gayle) Owens of Cambridge, IL, Steve (Theresa) Owens of Woodhull, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. 2 sisters, Margie Nagel and Betty Johnson both of Mesa, AZ, several nieces and nephews.

Lorraine E. Whitlow Martz, age 73, a resident of the Klein Center in West Burlington, IA, formerly of New Boston, IL, died Monday January 12, 2015 at the Klein Center. Services are 7:00 PM Monday January 19, 2015 at the Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo. Private Burial will be at a later date. Lorraine married Walter L. Martz October 25, 1970 in Muscatine, IA. He died June 28, 2001. She was employed at General Electric in Carroll, IA and after moving to Cainsville, MO, she worked at Jimmie Deans/Osceola Foods retiring in 2001. Lorraine was a member of the Cainsville Asembly of God and she was a very artistic person especially using her hands for crafting, sewing and painting. Survivors include 4 daughters, Lorri (Mark) Bliss of Wever, IA, , Kristi (Randall) Groff of Van Wert, IA, Lori Ann (Scott) Heinrich of Durant, IA, Brooke Argo of Charlotte, N.C, 1 son Bryan Martz of Pasadena, MD, 13 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Wanda (Kenneth) Whitmire of Joy, IL, Vonda Scull of Ft. Madison, IA, her uncle Jim Waite of New Boston, IL. and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband and 2 bothers Stacey and Albert Whitlow preceded her in death.
